 the sanctuary

coulter holden - the butterfly effect

Description of Area:

You wanna climb some hard stuff, you come here. The rock bridge boulders are a pretty unreal setting. Two huge boulders that fell on each other and made some very cool and hard kicked-back lines. Steep, stout, a little bit sketchy, and a whole lotta fun!

There is also the confederate wall that offers some mellower, but kinda tall boulders to warmup the muscles and head game on. Not as tall, but super duper fun, is the arete climb called "gorilla warfare."

Directions/access to area:

From HWY 35 exit 40th Ave W and head up the hill. After winding up the hill take the right onto Skyline Parkway. The road will bend a few times going up the hill. You will see a little area on your left side of the road to park at. If you hit the hairpin turn with the big rock face next to it you have gone too far. Park the car and walk back down the road in the direction you just came from. You will see a little retaining wall on the downhill side of the road. Hope over it onto the trail that will lead you down to the Sanctuary. Awesome downhill walk to the crag, coming back not so awesome...

Crag Map:

This is still a work in progress, but I'm trying to make one google map with all of the local crags pinned on it for easier location finding. These are not GPS pins, just me looking at the map and putting something that's pretty darn close to the actual location. As always with anything that gets you out in nature, a little resourcefulness and an adventurous spirit goes a long ways. Click here and happy hunting!

Mountain Project Beta:

Click here to go to the Mountain Project page for this location. The Duluth Mountain Project pages could use some serious love via better pics, better descriptions, and general updates; so if you feel like helping inform everyone, a little time and effort would be much appreciated!
