Join the VertiGals for a guided climbing day trip to Shovel Point at Tettegouche State Park, open to any womxn climbers – you don’t need to have attended a VertiGals event previously! Learn the basics of outdoor climbing on a top managed system (belayer at the top of the route, climber rappels down to the start of the route) and climb at one of the best cliffs in Minnesota. University of Minnesota Duluth Recreational Sports Outdoor Program staff will bring all the necessary equipment, set up routes, and belay climbers.
Some prior experience climbing in a gym (or outside) is recommended but not required. Shoes, harnesses and helmets will be provided, but bring your own if you have them.
Time to be determined. Limited to 12 participants.
Things to know if you’re joining:
Tettegouche is about a 1 hr 10 minute drive from Duluth, we can meet to carpool from Duluth
The hike to the climbing is up and down some stairs
There is a bathroom at the parking lot, the climbing is about a 5 minute hike from the parking area
BYO lunch/snacks and water
Weather along the north shore in September could be anywhere from hot and sunny to foggy and cold – dress appropriately and be prepared with extra layers
You will lower yourself over the edge of the cliff and rappel to the start of the climb. Guides will instruct on how to do this but we acknowledge this can be a bit intimidating for some climbers.
